Comparison between topical treatment with thioxolone , benzoxonium chloride tincture and intralesional injection of meglumine antymoniate on cutaneous leishmaniasis |
|
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله |
Cutaneous leishmaniasis ( CL) is a parasitic infection which has been treated with different drugs without any conclusive treatment. In this case control study, the therapeutic effect of Thio- Ben ( combination of thioxolon and benzoxonium chloride) was compared to intralesional meglumine antymoniate ( glucantime) treatment. Two groups of patients were chosen at random, first group ( test, n1= 19) were treated with topical Thio- - Ben, while the second group ( control, n=17) were given meglumine antymoniate, which is the common treatment for CL. After six weeks, the results showed that thirteen of the subjects from each group responded well to the treatment. No statistically significant differences were observed between the two groups. Therefore, we can conclude that the treatment with topical Thio-Ben is at least as effective as intralesional treatment with glucantime. However, since topical treatment with Thio-Ben is more convenient than intralesional treatment with glucantime, we recommend the former as the treatment of choice for cutaneous leishmaniasis ( CL). |
