Since the beginning of human life on the earth, comfort, safety and security for one’s family have been a necessary. The security has a fundamental role in all spheres of the social life, including economy, religion, culture and politics. One of the greatest achievements of divine religions is to maintain human psychological security against the stresses and evil temptations; therefore religiousness could have a significant role in explaining the variances of social security in a society. The present paper examines relationships between religiosity and the sense of social security in the city of Yazd.Data was collected through a survey questionnaire administered in the face to face interview, with a sample of 246 respondents selected through the proportionate cluster sampling technique. The sense of social security was measured using a scale with 12 components including the sense of physical, financial, economic, job, moral, cultural, emotional, affective, belief-related, judicial, legal, and honor security. Religiosity is also measured in five dimensions of intellectual, belief, ritual, emotional and consequential. Results show a significant positive correlation between the degree of religiosity and feeling of safety which is consistent with the ideas of authors such as Forum, Weber, Durkheim, Buzan, Parsons and Muslim theorists,. Therefore, spirituality and religiosity have significant role in explaining the safety feeling of individuals. Therefore, the optimum use of the capacities of religion can help to the formation of stable social security. |
