عنوان انگلیسی Investigating the Association Between Lifestyle Habits and Mortality Rates: A Prefectural Analysis in Japan
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله Aims: Malignant tumours, heart disease, and cerebrovascular disease are Japan's leading mortality causes. Mortality rates for these diseases vary significantly across prefectures, with over 1.5-fold differences. While previous studies have linked dietary habits and climate to regional mortality disparities, our study aimed to explore how lifestyle factors from health checkups correlate with prefectural mortality rates.
Methods: We used National Database (NDB) Open Data and 2015 Vital Statistics to investigate the Specific Health Examination Questionnaire responses' impact on age-adjusted mortality rates for malignant tumours, heart disease, and cerebrovascular disease among individuals aged 40–74 years in each prefecture. Multiple regression analysis incorporating the stepwise variable increase/decrease method was employed to identify lifestyle habits that contributed to mortality rates.
Findings: Smoking and drinking habits and food intake rate were associated with malignant tumour mortality. Heart disease mortality correlated with drinking habits, meal speed, and duration. Cerebrovascular disease mortality was linked to drinking, smoking, lifestyle modifications, skipping breakfast, meal timings, walking speed, and sleep rest.
Conclusion: Variations in mortality rates from the three major causes of death across prefectures are associated with differing lifestyle habits. Health policy planning and guidance tailored to health examination questionnaire responses could help reduce deaths from these causes in each prefecture.
