In this article the second and the third chapters of the book, “The Qur’an and Pluralism” is reviewed. According to the writer, there is an inconsistency between religious exclusivism and forbearance and tolerance and it is not possible to both conclude exclusivism from the Qur’anic verses and seek to prove tolerance and forbearance. Thus, the impressions given by the verses of the first chapter sound inconsistent with the verses of the second chapter; hence, only one of these two beliefs could be concluded from the Qur’anic verses. Chapter three of the book, which is organized by the title “Delusion of the Qur’an as Denoting Religious Pluralism”, is based on the documentation of the first chapter of the book. Thus, in respect to the review of the first chapter in the previous issue, there is no need for further comment here. The writer, however, has discussed and studied some of the criticisms on documentation of the exclusivists. |
