Background: Health care organizations are of high importance due to their significant responsibility in prevention and care. Job dissatisfaction among health care staff would result in emotional disconnection, indifference, and decreased quality of health services. The present study thus aimed to evaluate job satisfaction among health workers. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional analysis of the health care staff in Khomeinishahr. Staff members with at least 6 months of work experience were included. Therefore, 197 individuals entered the study. Data was collected by a two-part questionnaire covering demographic characteristics and Smith's job description inventory (JDI). JDI consists of 6 domains. Reliability of each domain was assessed and the overall validity of the questionnaire was calculated as 0.93. Pearson's and Spearman's correlation coefficients, independent t-test, and analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to analyze data in SPSS.Findings: The results showed the mean overall satisfaction score of 43.55 ± 12.8 (from100). Job satisfaction score was not significantly different between the sexes. However, men scored higher than women in the domain of attitude toward the current job (P = 0.001). The highest score was obtained in the domain of relationships with colleagues. On the other hand, 2 domains of income and job promotion scored the least. Higher numbers of worked years were associated with less job satisfaction. Attitude toward the current job had a direct relationship with income (P = 0.01). There was a significant inverse relationship between level of education and job satisfaction in domains of promotion, and income (P = 0.01). Conclusion: Managers should focus on increasing job satisfaction to improve the quality of work. |
