عنوان انگلیسی Evaluation of Occupational Health Status of Microscope Users at Tehran University of Medical Sciences
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله Background & Objective: A large number of technicians, and postgraduate students work with the microscope for a long time in the laboratory, who are at the exposure of high risk for musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and visual fatigue. Working with a microscope can be dangerous for both the visual and musculoskeletal systems. This study aimed to evaluate the status of occupational health of microscope users in two dimensions of musculoskeletal disorders and visual fatigue in Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Materials & Methods: This was a descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study conducted on 40 microscope users. The instruments used in this study were the Visual Fatigue Questionnaire and the PM-SS22881-Pars Madar Asia device. Visual fatigue was measured in two stages prior to beginning to work and 60 min later. Berg scale was employed to compare the level of discomfort and pain in the upper and lower body organs before and after work. Furthermore, the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire was used to evaluate the prevalence of musculoskeletal problems. Using the descriptive statistics, paired t-test, and simple linear regression, the data were analyzed applying software spss22. Results: More than half of the people suffered from pain and discomfort in the neck, upper back, and shoulder. The differences in the mean score of visual fatigue symptoms and the mean score of flicker value between two stages were statistically significant (P˂0.001). Simple linear regression equations for the changes in the final questionnaire score (R² = 0.708) indicated a significant inverse relationship between flicker value changes with changes in questionnaire score and visual fatigue symptoms. Conclusion: More than half of the participants are exposed to musculoskeletal disorders and visual fatigue. The diagnosis of the first symptoms of visual fatigue can be a proper warning to control the occurrence of visual fatigue at higher levels among microscope users. Besides, most musculoskeletal disorders would be avoidable through ergonomic equipment and training.
