چکیده فارسی مقاله رشتۀ ادبیات در دانشگاه‌های معتبر دنیا با سرفصل­هایی به روز و کاربردی پیش می رود. دانشگاه در عصر جدید به نهادی کارآفرین که بر تولید فکر، نوآوری، ایده‌محوری و خلاقیت محوری، استفاده از ظرفیت‌های بینارشته‌ای و برخوردار از تفکری در تعامل با جهان تبدیل شده است. در این میان رشتۀ دانشگاهی ادبیات نیز در بسیاری از دانشگاه­های پیشرفته در تلاش است خود را به رویکردهای جدید دانشگاه نزدیک کند، موضوعی که بررسی سرفصل­های ادبیات در این دانشگاه نمایانگر آن است.
با این وجود، این دانشگاه­‌ها همچنان به دنبال کسب مشروعیت آکادمیک بیشتری هستند. بحث­هایی که از 150 سال پیش در زمینه­هایی همچون تعریف ادبیات به مثابه رشته­‌ای آکادمیک و ماهیتِ علمیِ پژوهش‌­های ادبی آغاز شد، هنوز هم ادامه دارد.
استین هاوگم اولسن استاد ادبیات انگلیسی و نویسندۀ کتاب­ها و مقالات زیادی در مجلات معتبر جهان در زمینۀ فلسفۀ ادبیات، زیبایی­‌شناسی ادبی و .. است. او در این مقاله بر آن است که سیرِ تطور «مطالعات ادبی» را بررسی کند و این بحث را از گفتگوهایی که در دهۀ 1880 در دانشگاه­‌های آکسفورد و کمبریج در زمینۀ ماهیتِ آکادمیک رشتۀ ادبیات و نقد ادبی آغاز شد، تا دهه­‌های اخیر دنبال می­کند. تأکید مقالۀ اولسِن بر این است که مطالعات ادبی اگر بخواهد به دنبال کشف معنای آثار ادبی باشد، این معنا را از هر راهی با هر نظری‌ه­ای بخواهد به دست بیاورد، در نهایت چیزی است که هر خوانندۀ خوبی می­تواند انجام دهد.

چکیده انگلیسی مقاله The decipline of literature in the prestigious universities of the world is progressing with up-to-date and practical topics. In the new era, the university has become an entrepreneurial institution that focuses on the production of thought, innovation, idea-centeredness and creativity, the use of interdisciplinary capacities and having thinking in interaction with the world. Meanwhile, the academic field of literature in many advanced universities is trying to approach the new approaches of the university, a topic that is reflected in the study of literature topics in this university. Nevertheless, these universities continue to seek greater academic legitimacy. The debates that began 150 years ago in areas such as the definition of literature as an academic discipline and the scientific nature of literary research are still ongoing. Stein Haugham Olsen is a professor of English literature and the author of many books and articles in world-renowned journals on the philosophy of literature, literary aesthetics, and so on. In this article, he seeks to examine the evolution of "literary studies" and traces this discussion from the discussions that began in the 1880s at the universities of Oxford and Cambridge on the academic nature of literature and literary criticism to recent decades. Olsen's article emphasizes that literary studies, if it seeks to discover the meaning of literary works, to obtain that meaning in any way with any theory, is ultimately what any good reader can do.
