چکیده فارسی مقاله در دنیای پیچیدۀ اجتماعی و سیاسی مراجعه به آرای عمومی، یک راهکار و فضیلت در جوامع به‌شمار می‌رود، تا آنجا که تعیین نوع حکومت­، عالی­ترین مقامات، قوانین و مقررات کشورها از طریق مراجعه به آرای مردم تعیین می­شود. امروزه جوامع غربی و شرقی رأی اکثریت را حجت دانسته و اعتبار آن برایشان خدشه‌ناپذیر است. این اعتبار هم در جوامع ایدئولوگ و هم لائیک پذیرفته شده است؛ در این بین برخی اندیشمندان غیرمسلمان، و تقریباً همۀ اندیشمندان مسلمان بر حجیت و اعتبار مطلق رأی اکثریت ایراداتی وارد کرده­اند، که مستند و اعتبار رأی اکثریت از کجاست؛ اصول و مبانی اعتبار رأی اکثریت در نظام سیاسی چیست؟ با این حال بین موافقان و مخالفان مباحثی واقع شده که بیانگر دلایل و مستندات هر یک از قائلان است. این نوشتار می­کوشد با بررسی ادلۀ موافقان و مخالفان مبانی اعتبار و عدم اعتبار رأی اکثریت در نظام سیاسی اسلام را فارغ از تمایلات و اغراض سیاسی به‌دنبال دیدگاه حقیقت که بر پایۀ جایگاه رأی اکثریت در نظام سیاسی اسلام که نقش مقبولیت­زایی داشته، نه مشروعیت­زایی بیان دارد.
