Antibiotic Resistance Pattern of Diarrheagenic Escherichia Coli (DEC) in under 10 Years Old Children Admitted to the Hospitals and Central Laboratory of Zahedan
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله
ABSTRACT Background and Objective: Diarrheagenic Escherichia coli (DEC) pathotypes are one of the important causes in prevalence of diarrhea among children in developing countries. The objective of this study was to determine the frequency and antibiotic resistance pattern of DEC pathotypes in children who are less than ten years of age admitted to hospitals and central laboratory of Zahedan. Methods: In this cross sectional study, 300 cases of E. coli from diarrheic stool samples of children less than ten years old admitted to hospitals and central laboratory in Zahedan, during 4 month period (July to October) were collected. After conducting standard biochemical tests and using polyvalent antiserums, DEC pathotypes were diagnosed. Antibiotic resistant pattern of these strains was conducted using 11 different antibiotics by using standard agar disk diffusion method according to CLSI. Results: out of total number of 300 samples of E. coli, 89(%29.6) cases of DEC were separated using polyvalent antiserums. In this study, 35 cases(%39.3) reacted with antiserum No 1, 21 cases (%25.8) reacted with the antiserum No 2, and 31 cases (%34.8) reacted with antiserum No 3. In examining the antibiotic pattern, the greatest antibiotic resistance related to antibiotics ampicillin(%94.8), tetracycline(%87.2) and cotrimoxazole(%70.5). In addition, the lowest rates of antibiotic resistance related to antibiotics of imipenem(%1) and ciprofloxacin(%8.9), respectively. Conclusion: According to the distribution of DEC pathotype in children of Zahedan and increased antibiotic resistance of these pathotypes, antibiotics should be prescribed based on careful identification and antibiogram of this strain.
