عنوان انگلیسی The Analysis of the Physicochemical and Biological Characteristics of Green-Synthesized Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles from Quercus Galls and Thyme
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله This study investigates the green synthesis, characterization, and biological properties of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) synthesized using extracts from Quercus Infectoria Galls (QIG), thyme essential oil, thymol, carvacrol, and a thymol-carvacrol combination. The synthesized ZnO NPs were characterized using Fourier Transform InfraRed (FT-IR) spectroscopy, Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), Zeta Potential Analysis, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), X-Ray powder Diffraction (XRD), Elemental Mapping via Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS). FT-IR confirmed the presence of Zn–O bonds, validating successful nanoparticle synthesis. DLS and Zeta Potential analyses indicated uniform size distribution and high stability. FE-SEM imaging revealed well-dispersed spherical nanoparticles within the nanoscale range. The antimicrobial activity of the biosynthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) was evaluated against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Acinetobacter baumannii. ZnO NPs synthesized using bioactive agents demonstrated significantly enhanced antibacterial performance against MRSA and A. baumannii compared to commercial ZnO NPs. Antioxidant assays revealed that ZnO NPs derived from QIG extract exhibited the highest antioxidant activity (100%). Cytotoxicity assessments showed that ZnO NPs from QIG extract and thyme essential oil maintained high cell viability and promoted cell proliferation at concentrations up to 2500 µg/mL, whereas commercially available ZnO NPs exhibited significant cytotoxicity at comparable concentrations. Overall, these findings highlight the potential of green-synthesized ZnO NPs, particularly those derived from QIG extract and thyme essential oil, as promising candidates for biomedical and pharmaceutical applications, including antimicrobial therapies and antioxidant formulations.
