Changes due to the social transition along with the demographic transition have affected the quality of life of the elderly. Lack of emotional support, reduction in social communication and consequently reduction in social participation are important factors with regards to Changes due to the social transition along with the demographic transition have affected the quality of life of the elderly. Lack of emotional support, reduction in social communication and consequently reduction in social participation are important factors with regards to the quality of life. The aim of this article is to study the quality of life of the elderly and its relation to their participation in social activities in the city of Tehran with emphasis on sex factor. The data used in this study are based on a sample of 384 elderly aged 60 and over in the city of Tehran. The findings indicate that the quality of life of the elderly men is in higher level compared with elderly women. The elderly women have a much lower social activities than elderly men. In general, the findings of this study have indication of a significant positive relation between the quality of life and social activities. |
