Purpose: Abortion is one of the most traumatic phenomena in a woman's life. The resulting trauma leads to fear of having another abortion, despair, disability, loss of self-confidence, isolation, and impairment of mental health and quality of life. The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the impact of supportive counseling on the quality of life of pregnant women with a history of abortion. Methods: This quantitative study was conducted in a semi-experimental manner. The sample was 72 pregnant women referred to comprehensive health centers of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences to receive prenatal care. The data collection instrument was a demographic questionnaire and a quality-of-life questionnaire. The intervention group received counseling in three sessions using the Swanson approach. However, during this period, the control group received no intervention. Data were collected in three phases (pre-test, post-test, and follow-up) of the intervention from two groups. After completing the data collection, due to ethical considerations, the intervention based on the Swanson method was also implemented in the control group. Data were analyzed with chi-square, paired t-tests, repeated measures analysis of variance, t-test, and two-way repeated measures analysis of variance with SPSS25 software. Results: Both groups were similar in demographic characteristics and quality of life before the intervention (P < 0.05). At 4 weeks and 8 weeks after the intervention, the mean score was higher in the intervention group than in the control group (P < 0.05). At 8 weeks after the intervention, the quality-of-life score was higher than that of the control group in the dimensions of physical performance (P=0.009), social performance (P=0.039), emotional role play (P=0.004), and physical pain) (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The method of supportive care counseling as a midwife-centered intervention improves the quality of life of pregnant women with a history of abortion. This approach can be used in the care of pregnant women with a history of abortion.
