چکیده انگلیسی مقاله The issue of al-Ma'mu n's motives in relegating or imposing vicegerency on Ima m al-Rid a (A.S.) is highly significant in the history of Islam; hence, proper probing into the matter would clarify many relevant issues. Drawing attention to the status of the household of the Prophet (S.A.W.) and Ima m `Ali (A.S.) as well as their acceptability for caliphate after wrongdoings of the Umayyads, professor Wa`iz Zada in his lecture regards some of the Mu`tazilite intellectual trends as parallel to this issue. He interprets al-Ma'mu n's motives as exploitation of this ambience and views assuming him as Shi'ite as simple-mindedness.
