Background&Aims: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of group therapy based on self-compassion on emotion management and self-concept of single-parent girls. When couples separate, this can have profound, devastating, and destructive effects, for whatever reason; Because the absence of each couple, living conditions are unsuitable for family members and threatens them psychologically and psychologically, and in the meantime, the most psychological pressure is placed on the children of the family, especially children who are in the period of cookies or adolescence. Children who are deprived of the blessings of living with both parents and are forced to live with one of their parents, generally face many psychological problems and have more problems than other people. Single-parent children and adolescents experience less social support, and because one of the effective criteria for feeling social support is relying on parental power; The absence of one of them can lead to anxiety and negative mood while intensifying the feeling of emotional insecurity, emotional lack and insecure attachment. This group of children and adolescents often have difficulty managing their emotional control and therefore are not able to express their feelings and emotions well, and this exposes them to risks such as running away from home, addiction, aggression, social anxiety and Makes mild to severe depression. Emotions, which are a large part of human life, can cause many problems for human beings if they cannot be managed by the individual; However, the idea of living without emotions is impossible and unattainable; But managing, interpreting and understanding them can ensure individual and social mental health. Inability to manage emotions leads to anger, anxiety, hatred, aggression, etc., and lack of control threatens mental health. Therefore, having the ability to manage emotions, a kind of ability to prevent psychological and social problems. It is considered. Given that a large part of the psychological and social abilities of children and adolescents are learned in relation to parents, the absence of a parent can lead to the neglect of successful role models in them and this issue manifests itself in the form of cognitive and behavioral disabilities. As this group of children usually lack the ability to manage their emotions. On the other hand, inability to manage emotions, especially negative emotions, causes people to not be able to accept their emotions as a transient emotion, and the onset of negative emotions such as anxiety, negative moods, hatred, jealousy, anger, etc. causes self-esteem. Provides the bottom and leads to the creation of a negative self-image. The concept of self-concept refers to the image that a person develops in his mind of his personality and based on it he makes theories about the world that help him to cope with the situations he encounters and by creating theories in The case itself achieves a definite perception of itself. In fact, the basis of many decisions and behaviors of individuals is the amount of knowledge they have of themselves, and this way of looking at yourself based on whether it is positive or negative leads to different behaviors. Positive self-image and self-esteem in children and adolescents are strongly created by parental approval, and parental feedback is based on a rational belief in the child that can positively affect children's self-esteem. ; Accordingly, the absence of one of the parents for any reason, causes the development of a positive self-concept in the child . A review of previous research shows that psychological interventions and the provision of various trainings can lead to the formation of a positive self-concept and ability to manage emotions . Methods:In this study, the quasi-experimental method with pre-test and post-test design with control group was used and its statistical population consisted of all female single parents of the second high school in Mashhad in the academic year 2020-2021, of which 30 students were sampled. Targeted sampling was selected based on inclusion criteria and randomly assigned to two groups of 15 experimental and control for both groups of pretest, including Campbell Emotion Management Scale (1997) & Williams and Self-Esteem Scale. The experimental group was treated with self-compassion-based group for 8 sessions of 90 minutes and the control group did not receive any intervention, both groups completed the post-test again and the results were analyzed by analysis of covariance. Results: Showed that group therapy based on self-compassion is effective in increasing the management of emotions and positive self-concept and the subjects in the experimental group compared to the control group showed a significant increase in the management of emotions and self-concept. Conclusion: This approach can be increased She used the management of emotions and self-concept of single-parent girls and while influencing these variables, prevented behavioral problems and social harms that threaten these girls. Self-compassion is the ability to turn understanding, acceptance, and love inward. Many people are able to extend compassion toward others but find it difficult to extend the same compassion toward themselves. They may see self-compassion as an act of self-indulgence, but extending compassion toward oneself is not an act of self-indulgence, selfishness, or self-pity. In fact, self-compassion can help relieve many mental health concerns such as anxiety or insecurity. Many mental health professionals help people develop compassion for themselves. Compassion is the ability to show empathy, love, and concern to people who are in difficulty, and self-compassion is simply the ability to direct these same emotions within, and accept oneself, particularly in the face of failure. Many otherwise compassionate people have a harder time showing compassion for themselves, sometimes out of a fear of engaging in self-indulgence or self-pity, but an inability to accept areas of weakness may lead to difficulty achieving emotional well-being. Studies show that women in the United States typically show less compassion to themselves than men do. This may be partially due to the fact that women are often societally assigned the role of caregiver, with gender norms emphasizing nurturing, self-sacrificing acts. Self-compassion is also often confused with or linked to self-esteem, but the two differ: While self-esteem focuses on favorable self-evaluation, particularly for achievements, self-compassion is a form of self-acceptance, even in the face of failure. This emotion represents a shift away from being the best toward simply being the person one is. A person who scores high on measures of self-compassion might accept failures without defensiveness or justification and recognize that all people, even one's own self, are deserving of love and acceptance. On the other hand, high self-esteem might lead to a tendency to ignore or hide any personal flaws. |
